Industrial and Food Safety Manager Strategic Emphasis:
Contribute to the company growth and profitability strategies by efficiently leading the development and management of all food and occupational safety programs for field and facilities.
Responsible To:
Director of Processing and Value Add Operations General Description:
The Industrial and Food Safety Manager will develop, implement, and manage occupational health and food safety policies/procedures to promote safety operations in the organization, while maintaining compliance to federal, state and local industrial and food safety laws, regulations, codes and rules.
Qualifications:
1.
Bachelors Degree Preferred, or 5
years of relevant work experience.
2.
Must be able to understand and communicate in the English language, bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
3.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook etc).
4.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
5.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
6.
Must be flexible, have a good attitude and be willing to redirect focus for emergent needs.
7.
Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment.
8.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
9.
Punctual and be willing to work on some weekends or evenings as required.
10.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and be able to arrive to work on time.
11.
Project Management experience, PMP Preferred.
Job Duties and
Responsibilities:
Administrative:
1.
Documentation as needed within the area of responsibility, including pre- and post- audit documentation, certifications/licenses, etc.
2.
Management of the Food and Industrial Safety Program including the successful passing of all Third-Party Vendor Audits.
3.
Respond and follow through on open actions on receipt of audit results.
4.
Review and revise documents and company procedures to verify compliance with program and regulatory standards.
5.
SQF Practitioner qualifications must be attained and renewed as needed.
6.
HACCP certification must be attained and renewed as needed.
7.
Familiarize and stay up to date with GMP and Global GAP practices.
8.
Direct and supervise the Industrial and Food Safety Practitioner.
9.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Ecology/Wastewater:
1.
Test, monitor and report facilities' wastewater discharge.
2.
Ensure Department of Ecology wastewater permitting requirements are met.
3.
Manage compliance of Department of Ecology site soils impact testing and permitting.
4.
Procurement of chemicals for processing facilities in keeping with food safety standards.
Food Safety:
1.
Ensure production personnel follows food safety practices and regulations.
2.
Creation, documentation & implementation of firm Food Safety Program sufficient to pass Third Party Vendor Audits.
3.
Oversee the Food Safety Practitioner's role in microbiology program.
4.
Apply for licenses and renew as appropriate, such as WSDA Food Plant licensing, Organic Plant Licensing, Kosher licensing, etc.
5.
Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of the areas involved in Food Safety Programs.
6.
Conducts inspections and internal audits to assess employee compliance with food safety regulations.
7.
Always create and maintain and environment of audit ready throughout the organization.
8.
Report and correct food quality issues immediately.
9.

Industrial Safety:
1.
Cultivate Industrial Safety Program and conduct employee safety training sessions (i.
e.
forklift operation).
2.
Maintain all necessary relevant certifications to train and certify staff members within the safety department's scope.
3.
Develop the safety program to satisfy OSHA requirements including conducting safety meetings, compliance with governmental agencies and reporting.
4.
Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, occupational diseases; create proposals for the appropriate director and execute changes.
5.
Conducts inspections and internal audits to assess employee compliance with occupational safety regulations and best practices.
6.
Reviews, investigates and issues corrective actions following accident and incident reports.
7.
Report and correct safety violations or hazards immediately.
8.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
1.
The position is often exposed to environmental conditions such as:
low temperatures, high temperatures, and outdoor elements such as rain and wind.
2.
Must be able to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time, not be restricted by eyesight or bodily movement including repetitive motion and must have acceptable level of hand to eye coordination as required for driving, typing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, lifting, grasping, bending.
3.
Work is conducted in food processing plants with a high noise level, storage coolers, farm fields, maintenance shops and in an office environment.
Hazards are present within these facilities, around farm equipment and cleaning chemicals.
4.
This position is expected to occasionally lift loads and move objects in excess of 50 lbs.
Food Safety/Quality Notes:
In the occasion(s) when key personnel responsible for this role(s) is absent, an appropriately trained backup has been assigned to cover their nominated duties to ensure the integrity of the SQF System.
