is part of the family-owned farming and processing operation spanning four generations with over 85 years of experience in the small fruit industry.
Home based in Burlington, WA, the company is located in the premier berry growing area of the Pacific Northwest.
The berry processing operations engages in packing, marketing, sales, and distribution of fresh and frozen berries grown by the Sakuma family as well as many area growers, for both the domestic and international markets.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing an efficient irrigation program for multiple crops in both soil and substrate plantings which includes the installing and maintaining ponds and irrigation equipment and supervising and training general laborers.
Salary:
This position has a salary of $65,000.
00 to $80,000.
00 depending on the level of experience and education of the individual.

PRIMARY
Responsibilities:
1.
Works in conjunction with the corresponding Managers in planning and implementing an efficient irrigation program.
2.
Develop and recommend an irrigation program based on commodity.
3.
Oversees and ensures Organic compliances are maintained when treating Organic crops.
4.
Conducts regular walks of the fields to review and ensure proper distribution of irrigation is achieved.
5.
Ensure proper mapping and filing of irrigation designs is completed and maintained.
6.
Evaluates effect of watering practices on fruit quality.
7.
Monitors irrigation water quality as needed.
8.
Oversees Supervises the maintenance of ponds (including Processing wastewater.
) 9.
Oversees the Supervision of irrigators and general laborers.
10.
Supervises application of liquid fertilizers.
11.
Oversees and maintains all irrigation pumps and tanks.
12.
Oversees and performs general maintenance on drip tube, mainlines, and big guns.
13.
Oversees and performs winterization of the irrigation systems at the end of the season.
14.
Reviews general labor timecards daily to ensure the accuracy of task and field designation.
15.
Design irrigation systems using input provided by corresponding Managers.
16.
Obtain bids from irrigation vendors and submit recommended proposal to corresponding Manager.
17.
Prepare budget for creation and maintenance of irrigation system using input by corresponding Manager 18.
Advise Farm Manger of technical requirements of irrigation and fertigation and any new systems available - that are aligned with are farming practices - looking out.
19.
Provides proper training and development of irrigation personnel.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree with emphasis in agricultural studies or a minimum of a high school diploma or G.

and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in the small fruit industry, including working with chemicals and fertilizer applications.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must have a valid Washington State driver's license, Private Applicator's License, CPR, and First Aid certificates.
Experience in conventional and organic farm management of assigned crop(s) and Integrated Plant Management (IPM) techniques.
Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Familiar with the operation of farm equipment and machinery.
Understands and follows written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of basic mathematics and the ability to apply such on a daily basis.
Prepares and uses computer spreadsheets, word processing systems and electronic communications (MSOffice based).
Works independently using effective time management and organizational skills.
Makes decisions under pressure, specifically during periods of peak operations.
Adapts to change and growth in overall business operations and concepts.
Speaks Spanish and the ability to speak English is preferred but not required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Working around equipment and machinery on a routine basis is required.
Travel outside the State of Washingtonis required.
Physical requirements include working long hours (seasonally), working outdoors in adverse weather conditions, lifting, pushing, and pulling weights of up to 50 lbs.
